It generally applies that foam can be milled at cutting speeds of 16-110 m/s. These values depend on the volume weight; however, thanks to this very large range, it is possible to choose nearly any milling tool diameter and speed.
To make selection easier, the calculation example and the diagram shall serve as help for the determination of the cutting speed.
The optimal feed speed depends on different factors, as e.g. the type and size of tool, the milling tool section, the power of the drive motors of the milling tool, and – of course – the quality (material description / trade name) and the volume weight of the material to be machined.
It is often useful to carry out milling tests in test laboratory with your foam to reach optimal milling results. These tests are without engagement and free of charge.
